Well, I actually opened this post a few minutes ago, but the song I was listening to was fucking awful so I had to wander off in search of better music, I don’t like songs where they just scream or grunt constantly. To be honest, I hear enough grunting from whatever game I’ve played, be it my Oblivion character going HAAAH every 2 seconds when I swing my weapon, or Ayane roaring HOOP/YADDY CLOUD U NO or Ryu screaming WHORE or whatever the fuck, I don’t need to hear it in singing too.
..Anyway, there’s now just over two weeks until Borderlands comes out, I’m excited, YOU’RE excited, everyone’s fucking excited. Who isn’t excited about Borderlands? Casuals and bitches, that’s who! I’m pleased to see that Borderlands has been steadily climbing up pre-order charts too. All that’s left now is..well, for the game not to suck.
I re-played some Fable 2 online a few days ago and it reminded me why I hated it so much. It’s not that Fable is an inheritantly bad game, it’s just that it doesn’t master anything. It didn’t have good co-op nor a good singleplayer. SP was over when it should have begun, and co-op is just..ugh, pointless. I’ll ignore the fact that you can’t use your own character in another guys game, despite the point of Fable being to make your own unique hero..no, it’s the lag that annoys me. Lag? Yes, my friend was lagging so much he was fighting enemies that were invisible to me, so he was just clapping around the screen like a lunatic whilst I sat there pointlessly. It’s not that our internet is bad (well, okay, it is) as we can play most games perfectly most of the time. No, Fable 2’s online is shit. If Borderlands lets me down as much as Fable 2, my heart will turn black and I will never trust anything again ever.
Ah yes, now to touch on the subject matter of this post.
WHY DO YOU SUCK SO MUCH VLC? Seriously I’m not an expert on video software and stuff, but I know more than your average person. WHY IS THERE NO BLUE? DON’T TAKE AWAY ONE THIRD OF THE COLOURS. It’s somewhat annoying as not content with displaying shitty looking subs (which I purposefully left in the screenshot to show just how shit they are) and not letting me change them, it’s also fucked up the video for some reason. I know there’s nothing wrong with the file as I can play it fine in MPC and other players..it’s just that for some reason VLC is the only player that picks up the subtitle streams for whatever retarded reason.
This is what it should look like.
The quality is slightly lower in these .avi encodes certainly, but it’s a fair trade off for subs that don’t hurt my eyes so much..not to mention I actually get the full spectrum of colours. I’m honestly amazed, I never thought there would be an occasion where hardsubs look superior to softsubs. VLC just refuses to let me improve them, and the ones in that screenshot are the results of me fiddling with them for 2 hours to make them look SLIGHTLY less eye blasting.
On the bright side, it’s only for the first 16 episodes, as I have 17-25 in nice quality.
It’s a tad annoying, I’m not really against buying DVD versions you know? It’s just that every time I buy a DVD release, the quality is always inferior to encodes I can find on the net, so my desire to buy them is honestly quite small. I don’t have the screenshots anymore, but I had comparisons of the E7 DVDs I had bought to the TV encodes..and the TV encodes looked far better. I tend to get pretty obsessed with video quality sometimes as well, so it annoys me doubly so.
Finally, from what I’ve seen of the fall season of anime thus far..it’s all shit. The only shows I have actually watched myself are Nyan Koi and the Sacred Blacksmith, both of which were awful and I have subsequently dropped. Recent news about DtB2 makes it sound crap, 12 episodes long, generic character is the MC and Hei’s just a “mentor” or something. I’ll still check it out, but I’m honestly not expecting much. There is tha ROT3K anime, but I doubt anyone will bother subbing it, so I’ll just stick with watching FMA.
Ed’s hand looking like a huge metal nose aside, that episode had a funny end.
