Hey, look! It's a hook!

I’ve been watching Bleach on and off for a while, but really couldn’t fully get into it for the first season’s worth or so. But wait! What’s this? An overarching plot? I’ve reached episode 47, so now I know that there’s at least one villain possibility: the smirking Captain of squad 3 (whose name I can’t spell to save my life). Ruyka’s brother is another: he seems to be a nasty one as well. Time will tell.

Episode 43 is bugging me, however. I could have sworn I heard an extremely familiar voice, but the IMDB isn’t backing me up on it. One of the minions of the research Captain (squad 12, I think) sounded exactly like the English voice actor for Edward Elric of FMA fame. Ah, well…maybe I’m right, maybe not.

I’m enjoying the story more now, though it’s not reaching InuYasha-FMA levels of interest so far. I’ve been advised to stick with it until episode 59 as there’s a big reveal, so I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt for now. I do love the idea of sentient swords so it just got a big plus in the last few episodes as Ichigo tries to master his. The biggest detractor at the moment is pacing At this point in InuYasha, we’d already hit my favorite arc (the reforging of the Tetsusaiga) and I was very emotionally invested in the characters. FMA: Brotherhood doesn’t even have this many episodes yet and much plot development has happened. With Bleach, we’re kinda stuck on the save-the-girl quest. Things are finally starting to get interesting, but I’ve had to invest a lot of time to reach this point.

That, and Don whats-his-face and Kon need to stay gone for now. The two of them were what made me almost abandon the series. I need a better hook than what I’ve got now to survive them.

Now that Lent has begun, I’m only going to be watching one episode of something a day, instead of the 10-ish I watched tonight. After marthoning InuYasha, I find that I can easily spend a few hours watching anime without even noticing the time go by. It’s nice, but bad when I have other things to accomplish!
