Voices of A Distant Star - DEPRESSING

Before I begin a review let me just ask… What was the point of this movie?

I think the only clear answer is to try and make you cry.  Honestly.

Well heres my review:

voices of a distant star

Ok, this movie came out in 2002, and is 25 minutes long.  A SHORT movie to say the least.  However, I had heard so many good things about it that I had to see it.  I was told that this is one of the best sci-fi movies of the past decade, and not just anime, overall.

So the movie is about a couple in a long distance relationship.  How long?  He’s on Earth, and she starts the movie on Jupiter, then keeps moving further and further away.  Light years actually.  This movie takes place in the future, and the female lead, Mikako, is a part of a fleet trying to kill aliens that attacked Mars.

The only way the couple can keep in touch is by sending mail to each other…. which seem more like text messaged to me.  Anyways, the further she moves away, the longer it takes for their messages to reach each other.  Sounds like an awesome relationship to me, not.

So this dickfore just waits around for years for her to mail him, and its really annoying to me.  Why? Am I heartless? No.  I’m just not a fuck-tard.

I think they were trying to make it a heart-warming story of 2 lovers who are years apart but they still love each other and are faithful blah blah blah.  WELL IT CAME OFF DIFFERENTLY TO ME.  You wanna know how it came off to me? DEPRESSING.

There is not even close to a happy ending, some might say there is no ending at all and this movie was pointless.  Others gave it a shit load of awards, which is another reason why I wanted to watch it.  You can make up your mind yourself, but trust me, don’t watch it unless you in the mood for a little tear jerker.

What grade do I give it?

Thats a tough one….. Is there a grade for the only point of this movie is to make you cry and nothing else?

Ohhhh wait… there IS a grade I can give it.

D… for depressing. (and yes its a D on an A thru F scale)

Until Next Time, OBALLER.
